Description

Background
Neutrophil elastase is a major neutral protease present in human neutrophils and is released by neutrophils following stimulation with a variety of stimuli. It is believed to be a major mediator of the lung destruction seen in emphysema. In addition to elastin, neutrophil elastase can cleave other biologically active proteins such as fibrinogen and antithrombin and is released by neutrophils during clot formation.
Immunogen
Purified human neutrophil elastase.
Specificity
These antibodies recognize human neutrophil elastase and vary in their ability to inhibit neutrophil elastase activity as determined in an assay of elastase-mediated hydrolysis of elastin-Congo Red substrate.
